This short road-trip takes you through the quiet, little town of Lansdowne, military HQ of the Garhwal Rifles. The hill-station is growing increasingly popular as a weekend getaway because it remains largely unexplored, and also because of its proximity to New Delhi. The other highlight in this itinerary is the drive to Ramnagar for a Safari at Jim Corbett National Park, India's oldest national park.

Stretch your legs after you reach your hotel, and head out to explore New Delhi's hub, Connaught Place (CP) and the nearby areas. The Rajpath and India Gate are a stone's throw away. Sunset is the best time to be here, as that is when you get to see the national capital's distinct skyline.
Later, roam and preferably window-shop around the vibrant and ever-bustling inner and outer circles of Connaught Place. The Jain Book Depot and the Oxford store are must visits for every book lover. The latest addition to CP's list of attractions is Madam Tussauds Delhi.

Enjoy a city tour of New Delhi.

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in a chauffeur-driven car for a city tour of New Delhi.Start a mesmerizing tour of the City of Djinns with a visit to Imperial Delhi, accompanied by your local guide. Soak in the grandiose of the city with a drive past the imposing 42 meters tall India Gate (war memorial arch), set amidst the sprawling gardens standing alone as it were. With its eternal flame andthe names inscribed on its arch, it affords a perfect tribute to 82000 soldiers of the Indian army who died in the First World War. We now drive past the Parliament House andthe RashtrapatiBhavan(the President's Residence), a structure epitomizing India's strength, its democratic traditions and secular character.

Once you're done, your experience at these national monuments will only be outshined as you head next to the magnificent Tomb of Humayun. Considered a forerunner to the TajMahal, the Persian red sandstone structure evokes another era and is bound to lure you with its majestic, old world charm.

Later, we drive through the busy streets of Delhi catching a glimpse of a bustling life not ready to stop at any point of time. We arrive at the 13th century buff sandstone tower, the QutabMinar. In AD 1199, Qutbu'd-Din Aibak laid the foundation of this masterpiece in stone, to which were added three more storeys by his successor and son-in-law, Shamsu'd-Din Iltutmish. QutubMinar, the leaning tower of India (it leans 2 feet of its axis) located ideally in the lush green complex still stands tall despite being hit several times by lightening and earthquakes. Though, it was the first formal entry of Islamic rule in India, its various structures offer very interesting insights into its architecture.

Your introduction to the old city begins with a visit to the Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India. Situated on a mound in the heart of the erstwhile capital of the Mughals, this impressive red sand stone structure projects beautifully into the Old-Delhi skyline with a courtyard capable of holding 25,000 devotees. Lady travellers could feel more of this country's culture as they would be handed over with gowns as a protocol to visit the mosque.

Get ready to hop on one of the most characteristic means of transport in India, the cycle rickshaw. Myriad colours, organized chaos, crowd, maze of narrow alleys, soothing fragrances, pungent smells, stray dogs andobviously the holy cow - all this andmuch more comes your way as your cycle rickshaw skilfully meanders through the bylanes of the walled city of Shahjahanabad. After having experienced all the hustle - bustle of the old city, we switch over to the calm andserene Raj Ghat- the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi. Raj Ghat with its sublime expanse of lush green trees affords a perfect ode to one of the greatest souls ever. It is bound to leave you with an after taste of inspiration. Drive past the Red Fort. Once the residence of the Mughal Kings till 1857, the Red Fort is a remarkable monument carved out of red sandstone, built at the pinnacle of their reign.

The car will be delivered to you at the hotel. Drive out of New Delhi on NH34 towards Meerut, but switch to NH334 at Bhurbaral to bypass the crowded UP town. The two National Highways meet at Miranpur, which is also the only place with a decent pit-stop en route: Monty Millions. Continue on NH34 up till Najeebabad, and then switch to NH534, which will take you via Kotdwar and Dugadda. Until Dugadda, the roads are smooth and well-paved, and you will not find much traffic either. Thereon, the twisty, winding, hilly road up to Lansdowne is quite scenic, and thoroughly fun to drive.

The Tarkeshwar is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is a 30 km drive from Lansdowne. The temple is located in a dense Deodar forest, and looks particularly scenic in the morning. We hence recommend that you leave early for it. The route to Tarkeshwar Temple is also perfect for a refreshing, morning drive. It weaves through rolling hills covered with towering Deodar trees, just the kind that marks a perfect start to the day.
Your trip back to Lansdowne is about an hour long and you should be back for lunch. Unless you plan on eating at your resort, a little restaurant called Tipsy' cafe is your only alternative.

  • Activities

Embark on a visit to the Garhwal War Memorial.

St. Mary's Church over 100 years old. Due to structural weakness, it was declared unfit for regular church functions during the 1950s. The Garhwal Rifles restored the Church, and now run it as a museum showcasing the history of the Garhwal region.
Bhulla Tal is a manmade lake with a park that is maintained by the Army. It has its own restaurant, a mini bird zoo and boating facility in the lake.
Two kilometres further up is where you can see the sun wind down for the day. The best way to watch the sunset, however, is from inside the Army Public School, which is located just adjacent to the Sunset point.
