    On arrival in San Francisco, pick up your rental car from the car rental agency at the airport and drive to Monterey via CA-1 S. En route at Pacifica, you can halt at the Mori Point, a bluff next to the Pacific Ocean that offers scenic views of the peninsular coastline. Slightly up the road, you will spot the Pacifica State Beach, one of the most popular surfing beaches for beginners. Foodies need to check out Nick's Seafood Restaurant in Pacifica: they offer brilliant crab sandwiches and are generally known for their seafood. Next en route is the Montara State Beach, one of the cleanest beaches in the state renowned for surfing and fishing. If you're hungry, stop by La Costanera: a Peruvian restaurant with glass walls overlooking the water. Driving ahead to Pescadero, you will pass one of the tallest lighthouses on the West Coast of United States, the Pigeon Point Lighthouse, built in 1871. Next, at Davenport, you can halt at the massive rock that stands guard over a small cove full of geologic wonders. Just down the coast from here is Santa Cruz, where you can head to Ferrell's Donuts for some seriously good donuts!

    You will finally arrive in Monterey and may opt to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium - it displays 35,000 animals belonging to over 550 species - and the Cannery Row, a waterfront street with several restaurants, hotels and few historic attractions.

    Drive from Monterey to San Luis Obispo via CA-1 S. First on the list is 17-Mile Drive, a scenic road through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula, which hugs the Pacific coastline and passes several famous golf courses, mansions and scenic attractions; there is a toll you need to pay to access this road. Next on the list is Carmel by the Sea, a small town known for its fairy-tale cottages and galleries, and Mission San Carlos Borromeo, a Roman Catholic Mission Church. Further, the drive continues to the Big Sur, where you will come across Bixby Creek Bridge, one of the most photographed bridges in California due to its aesthetic design and architecture, and magnificent setting; Pfeiffer State Beach, nicknamed 'mini Yosemite', another highly-photographed spot; and Limekiln State Park, a beautiful park known for its kilns from an 1887-90 lime-mining operation. Drive to San Simeon, where you will spot a national historic landmark, Hearst Castle, and Friends of the Elephant Seal, a popular spot to observe elephant seals. At Cambria, halt at The Nitt Witt Ridge, an architecturally-unique house full of knick-knacks. Arrive at San Luis Obispo and check out its famous attractions: Bubblegum Alley and Bishops Peak, a volcanic plug.

At Santa Barbara, we recommend you indulge in loads of attractions: Mission Santa Barbara, Stearn Wharf Pier, Arroyo Burro Beach Country Park, Santa Barbara County Court House and the Museum of Natural History, and eat at Santa Barbara Shellfish Company.
