Today, ride up to the hill-top fort complex of Chittor. The fort comprises a long list of World Heritage sites, the prominent ones being the Vijay Stambh, the Kirti Stambh, the Padmini Palace, Kumbha Palace, and the Rana Ratan Palace.
The palace has a rich, and rather tragic history. Some of Rajasthan's traditions have emerged from within these walls, namely Jauhar (Royal ladies jump into the funeral pyre of their husbands in a group) and Purdah (ladies cover their faces in front of the men of the house).
The fort is also the backdrop for the story of Allaudin Khilji wanting to get a glimpse of Rani Padmini, for which he eventually attacked Chittor.
