The route to Kabini takes you through Mysore which, after Madras, is one of the most historically important cities in South India.
One route to take is the NH275, passing through Ramanagara, Mandya and Srirangapatna. The road is a fast, flowing, four-lane highway throughout which helps cover distances quickly. Ramanagara is where the legendary Sholay was shot; Gabbar's hilly hideout is located in Ramdevara Betta Hills, a 3.5 km detour from the highway, just after the Ramanagara RTO office. The spot is also popular for adventure sports like rappelling and rock-climbing. You could stop next at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple and the beautiful Daria Daulat Palace in the historic town of Srirangapatna. Next, head to the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, home to as many as 170 species of birds - painted storks, woolly-necked storks and stork-billed Kingfishers to name a few. Animals commonly spotted here include the flying fox, and the mugger crocodile. The Krishna Raja Sagara Dam is another picturesque spot you shouldn't miss. You can explore the nearby regions, most notably the Brindavan Gardens, which even offer boat rides into the Kaveri river, over which the dam is built.
Another way to reach Mysore from Bengaluru is the NH948. On this route, you could turn left at Halaguru to reach Bheemeshwari, popular for fishing, coracle rides, rafting and trekking trails. Also close by is Shivanasamudra, famous for the picturesque Gaganachukki Waterfalls on the Kaveri River; it's a 30 km detour from Malavalli.
Next on the way is the historical Somnathapura, where you should stop at the Chennakesava Temple. The complex was built in 1268 and features intricately carved statues and engravings depicting stories from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
On arrival, check-in to your hotel in Mysore.

After breakfast, drive to visit the Mysore Palace, Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion and Chamundeshwari Temple.
To experience the royal life of Mysore, one must visit the Mysore Palace. Traditionally the residence of the Wadiyars, the Royal family of Mysore, the palace was built over a span of 14 years. The palace is a three-storied granite structure that has a 145-ft tower as well. The palace faces a well-manicured yard with flowering plants and other varieties of indigenous plant species. The Palace is a delight to watch at night when the entire facade is illuminated with powerful halogen lamps.
Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion is situated on a high ridge in the campus of the University of Mysore. It was built in 1905 by Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar for his eldest daughter Jayalakshmi Devi. Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion has an imposing structure and an equally impressive architecture with large and intricately-carved pillars. The interior decorations of this magnificent building are in a purely Indian style. The highlight of the palace is the Kalyana Mandapa, a square-shaped hall with large teak pillars adorned with 40-feet-high glass dome.
Further down is the Chamundeshwari Temple, dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is one among 18 shakti peethas (seats of energy).

Drive from hotel in Mysore to hotel in Kabini, en route visit Chandramouleshwara Temple, Jagmohan Palace, St. Philomena's Cathedral.

Karnataka's roads simply don't cease to impress. The route switches between two-lane state-highways and four-lane sections. Certain parts even open up to broad six-lane roads. Start your trip to Kabini with a visit to the Chandramouleshwara Temple, a 900-year-old protected monument dedicated to Lord Shiva. Head next to St. Philomena's Cathedral, the second largest church in Asia; it was modelled after the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. Further towards Kabini are the Jaganmohan Palace and the Mysore Palace. While the Mysore Palace was the original home of the royal family, the Jaganmohan Palace was an alternate home, which was built when the Mysore Palace was burned down in a fire. Arrive at Kabini and check-in to the hotel.

  • Other Recommendation

The rest day is at leisure in Kabini.

  • Day 6 Kabini

Nature lovers should drive straight to the Nagarhole National Park, where you can spot Asian elephants along with tigers, leopards, wild boars and Indian gaurs. Kabini is also ideal if you want to kick back and relax. You could also take coracle rides on the Kabini River, or set out on short treks scattered all over the nearby forests.

  • Day 7 Kabini
    • Drive
    • Distance:130 km
    • Breakfast
    • Drive from the hotel in Kabini to the hotel in Coorg.
    • Overnight in Coorg.

  • Activities

Drive from the hotel in Kabini to the hotel in Coorg.

Head towards Kodagu via SH33 and SH57 through Hunsur. Some lovely roads await you on this section. What's nice is that even the winding country roads en route are perfectly laid and for those who like to tackle bends, these stretches are an absolute riot! We suggest your first stop on the way should be The Vintage Car Collection, Coorg - a treat for auto enthusiasts. Travel further north and you will pass the Dubare Elephant Camp, located across the Kaveri River. This region is known for river-rafting, and those wanting to ride the rapids should definitely give it a shot.
You should head next to the Namdroling Monastery, the largest teaching centre of the Nyingma sect of Buddhism. Within the monastery, you'll find the Golden Temple, a massive and rather peaceful space ideal for unwinding from the drive. Don't miss the momos at the monastery's cafe: they are delicious and hard to get your hands on due to high demand. Head to your hotel for the night.

For your second day in Coorg, we suggest you head to Abbey Falls, a waterfall set amidst lush coffee plantations, about 25 km from Coorg. • Overnight in Bengaluru.

  • Activities

Drive from the hotel in Coorg to the hotel in Bengaluru via Settihalli.

Today, you shall drive northwards to Settihalli, a little town known for the Rosary Church. The 19th century monument drowns in the monsoons and dries out in the summer. However, despite the relentless wear and tear, it has stood the test of time. Importantly, the church's ruins and the surrounding makes for a picturesque setting, making it an ideal picnic spot. The trip to the Rosary Church is through narrow country roads. While the route is scenic, especially just after the rains, the blind bends and oncoming traffic demand you to be on your feet at all times. The roads onward to Bengaluru are in much better condition; the final leg is through the open NH75.
Set out early in the day, so that you can cover the four-hour-long drive to Bengaluru by evening.
