This short road-trip takes you through the quiet, little town of Lansdowne, military HQ of the Garhwal Rifles. The hill-station is growing increasingly popular as a weekend getaway because it remains largely unexplored, and also because of its proximity to New Delhi. The other highlight in this itinerary is the ride to Ramnagar for a Safari at Jim Corbett National Park, India's oldest national park.

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in a chauffeur-driven car for a city tour of New Delhi. Discover South Delhi, known for attractions like the National Museum, housing artefacts from as far back as the Harappan Civilisation; Humayun's Tomb - the pinnacle of Mughal architecture before the Taj Mahal; and the Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya Dargah, the burial ground for Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya. If you happen to visit the Dargah on a Thursday evening, make sure to attend the qawali sessions that the musicians hold fervently here.
Further Southwards, visit the serene Lotus Temple, a gift to the city from the Bahai community. On your way to the Lotus Temple, you will pass the Moolchand Metro Station. It's where you will find Moolchand Paranthewaala, which is one of the best restaurants in Delhi for your fix of, crisp, stuffed paranthas. Also, visit the Qutub Minar, the 73-metre tall pillar that is a defining feature of the Capital's skyline.
Moving back up north, visit Dilli Haat, your one-stop shop for handicraft items in the city; and the Lodi Gardens, a posh park which contains the tomb of rulers Sikander Lodi and Muhammed Shah. The garden complex also has Lodi - The Garden Restaurant, a posh, al fresco restaurant that serves Mediterranean food.

The motorcycle will be delivered to you at the hotel. Ride out of New Delhi on NH 34 towards Meerut, but switch to NH 334 at Bhurbaral to bypass the crowded UP town. The two National Highways meet at Miranpur, which is also the only place with a decent pit-stop en route: Monty Millions. Continue on NH 34 up till Najeebabad, and then switch to NH 534, which will take you via Kotdwar and Dugadda. Until Dugadda, the roads are smooth and well-paved, and you will not find much traffic either. Thereon, the twisty, winding, hilly road up to Lansdowne is quite scenic, and thoroughly fun to ride.

The Tarkeshwar is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is a 30 km ride from Lansdowne. The temple is located in a dense Deodar Forest, and looks particularly scenic in the morning. We hence recommend that you leave early for it. The route to Tarkeshwar Temple is also perfect for a refreshing, morning ride. It weaves through rolling hills covered with towering Deodar trees, just the kind that marks a perfect start to the day.
Your trip back to Lansdowne is about an hour long and you should be back for lunch. Unless you plan on eating at your resort, a little restaurant called Tipsy' cafe is your only alternative.

  • Activities

    Visit the Garhwal War Memorial.

Post lunch, head out to the Garhwal War Memorial, which exhibits the illustrious history of the Garhwal Rifles regiment and its contributions to the Indian Army.
Thereon, all attractions - St. Mary's Church, Bhulla Tal and Sunset Point are stacked one behind the other on the same road.
St. Mary's Church over 100 years old. Due to structural weakness, it was declared unfit for regular church functions during the 1950s. The Garhwal Rifles restored the Church, and now run it as a museum showcasing the history of the Garhwal region.
Bhulla Tal is a manmade lake with a park that is maintained by the Army. It has its own restaurant, a mini bird zoo and boating facility in the lake.
Two kilometres further up is where you can see the sun wind down for the day. The best way to watch the sunset, however, is from inside the Army Public School, which is located just adjacent to the Sunset point.
